Homestudio flush mount speakers
Hi there DYSTONIA, and Welcome to the forum! :thu: :D Congratulations on your "in progress" control room! You'll find a lot of help about your questions here on the forum, and several threads by people who have built their own rooms similar to yours... or are in the process of doing that. ...

Looks fine to me! Louden's first ratio is a good one. It's also not necessary to hit the numbers spot on. Rather, just get close, as you have. Some people think they need to tweak the dimensions exactly, down to the nearest millimeter (1/32"), but it that's not needed. Room ratios are all about...

6059 The inside out ceiling is interesting, I may do this in my control room which is only 9x17x13 I have 2x8s overhead so an additional 7" of dampened ceiling height would definitely help! Right! It's 7" of "free" acoustic height. 17x13 is already a nice size, so getting a litt...

Quick response.... 1. If you have 70 dBC outside and need "inaudible" inside, then around 40 dB of isolation will do the trick. That would put the levels inside down around 30-ish dBC, which should be decent for most tracking needs (maybe not for Foley work!). I'd still shoot for 50 isolat...

A couple of quick questions (which you probably already answered earlier in the thread but I'm a bit short on time right now to go looking for them again): What is your goal for isolation! (How many decibels of "transmission loss" do you want from your room?) What is the purpose of the roo...

I want light and sound isolation
Which seems to be a double edged sword - on the one hand, no one can say it's above the legal threshold, on the other hand, anyone who's bothered has a legitimate complaint. Unfortunately, that's the case in many places around the world! Because the regulations are written by politicians, they alwa...

I've had good experience with Mogami. Never tried Gepo, so I can't comment on that. Canare is another good one I recommend. Not so sure about quadcore, to be honest. What I would suggest, is that you run way too many cables while you are doing this! If you think you'll need 8 channels, run 12 or 16....

How to make your own speaker, completely DIY.
I must say, I seldom post links to YouTube videos, but this one sort of impressed me. It's a guy making a speaker from various bits of junk he had laying around his house. Certainly not a studio reference monitor, but pretty darn good, considering what he used to make it. Very ingenious, too. It's a...

I want light and sound isolation
But, if my band plays at 110db and I get my room up to 50db of reduction, that's still 60db of sound that the neighbors will hear. Not necessarily! It depends on how far away your neighbors are from your building. Sound decrease with distance at the rate of about 5 dB every time you double the dist...

Some Questions - In Progress Garage Conversion
OK, about your concern with the outer leaf door perhaps being blocked if it opens outwards: The simple solution is to use a sliding glass door there, if that is a concern, and maybe use Glenn's idea of an "aesthetic"barn-style cover over that door (not acoustic), such as he suggested in th...

Some Questions - In Progress Garage Conversion
Hi Joe, and Welcome to the forum! :thu: Absolutely agree with Glenn! Decouple completely for maximum isolation. It's surprising just how much sound a hard connection can transmit. A really good illustration to convince yourself of this, to get an old-fashioned tuning fork. Tap it on a table then hol...

I want light and sound isolation
Regarding your door questions: So if I get standard commercial sliding doors that get 35db reduction each, how do I calculate what kind of reduction I'd get? And how does the distance between them affect that? Am I getting any where near 80db? ... the glass doors I'm speaking of would be double glaz...

I want light and sound isolation
Am I getting any where near 80db? 80 dB isolation (transmission loss) is a very tall order, and it's unlikely you would need that much. For some perspective: A typical house wall (2x4 stud frame with a single layer of 1/2" drywall on each side), might get you 25 dB, perhaps 28 if it is well bu...
