My wife yelled at me for wasting so much time stacking the tubes of green glue.

It's amazing that in this case, Green Glue is the less expensive solution. That never happens...

Perhaps I missed this, but is the door an interior-only door? If it is, then MDF should work fine. If it exposed to the outside, you shouldn't put MDF on that side of the door as it doesn't play nice with moisture.
