Residential recording studio in basement

concrete is also a great transmission medium for sound as well. so structural transfer is the real enemy in the shared structure of a townhouse/condo/apartment. so impact and sound into the floor (for example) from a kick drum or bass amp, will transmit at ~12x the speed of air and may result in str...

Listening Room: Achieving Good Acoustics with Absorbers, Resonators, and Diffusers

HH resonators can be tricky to build to get them operating at the correct frequency and Q. ultimately - nulls are manifested by corresponding peaks. so attenu...

Listening Room: Achieving Good Acoustics with Absorbers, Resonators, and Diffusers

376cm wide, 359cm deep, and 310cm high right off the bat, you have a nearly cube room (1:1.11:1.15 ratio) which means some of your low end will have specific reinforcement modes. one option is looking into membrane traps to target those and also adjust your cloud absorption with some hard backed tr...

no, the length is fine. except for the duct space and some access to the speaker box, this will be full of insulation so there shouldn't be any issue and in fact may be helpful in support said insulation so it's not compacted much.

Getting internet to a garden room

run the CAT-6/7 cables (i'd run 4) from the terminal block at the fusebox to the garden terminal block. then inside the house, run a cable to your router. there really isn't any magic if you want reliable networking. the Power Ethernet is iffy at best so i do not recommend it. having multiple cables...

yeah, shear bracing require something which is not going to fall apart with moisture and thus lose structural integrity :-) weird, almost like they don't want the structure to collapse on you... ;-)

yes Mason Industries is a most excellent company -- with the caveat that they often pricey compared to Kinetics Noise (who is also an excellent company as well).

yes, sadly, as i have modeled many of the isolation products for use in my design work, i can recognise 99.9% of them :inn:

Feasibility of Isolating Studio Above Attached Garage

use the flex duct (as large as you can make it) from the silencer to the vents and fill around them with the pink stuff. the friction after the silencer is minimal with flex and being flex will allow the LF absorption to work through it and around it. place supply vent nearest your AC handler. perfo...

yes, a "control room" is a critical listening space - with the exception that people using it to mix or record may have a lot of "stuff" surrounding them so they get acclimatised to the effects. :-) a "mastering room" is also a critical listening space but attempts to m...

so a few approaches - #1 angle the glass - i'd not do that in this case - losing floor space and not equal to opposing wall; #2 use movable absorption panels to match the opposing wall - this is likely the better option; #3 combine the moveable panels with heavy theater drapes over the glass.
