Feasibility of Isolating Studio Above Attached Garage
use the flex duct (as large as you can make it) from the silencer to the vents and fill around them with the pink stuff. the friction after the silencer is minimal with flex and being flex will allow the LF absorption to work through it and around it. place supply vent nearest your AC handler. perfo...

yes, a "control room" is a critical listening space - with the exception that people using it to mix or record may have a lot of "stuff" surrounding them so they get acclimatised to the effects. :-) a "mastering room" is also a critical listening space but attempts to m...

so a few approaches - #1 angle the glass - i'd not do that in this case - losing floor space and not equal to opposing wall; #2 use movable absorption panels to match the opposing wall - this is likely the better option; #3 combine the moveable panels with heavy theater drapes over the glass.

ok, so maybe then consider going back to the original door on the upper left of the CR - but - have the desk setup down by the iso booth. i think those two doors in the small iso booth will be crowded

and if you want to go crazy with it - the walmat can be used to lift the soffit framing and decouple it there as well. i often use it for single surface studios where we cannot separate the slabs and want less air -> structure -> structure/floor transfers (mainly in places where people listen to mix...

ok.. maybe explain the workflow? you have two studios - one presumably for teaching, and one for recording and mixing. and you're leaving a chunk off the corner for? rather maybe going to full 5.5 x 9.3 for the building? then you could use one corner for the air lock entries / couch between units?

the let-in adds structural support - could simply be blocks/nailers etc in the frame. then the mass layers. then you attach to the structure rather than drywall or structure supports on the drywall (although an option to prevent cracking on the top layer)

i'd move the exterior door to be closer to the corner, move the inner door opposite the couch. this leaves room for the keyboard on the outer wall and then add sliding glass doors to separate the drum and that alcove. you now have a proper air lock, iso booth, and full visibility between them later ...

as a quick note - consider having the OSB be the first layer to attach to the structural supports - hat channel etc as a) it tends to be more secure than gwb, and b) use a let-in into the exterior frame, attach the mass, then the isolator brace via long fasteners into the let-in rather than a ledger...

on the planning side - why have the door directly next to the critical listening position -- essentially creating an asymmetric space there? versus having the door on the adjoining wall by the keyboard (opposite the couch)? minimal foot traffic between rooms and studio entry (if and when used) and b...
