6149 plus what are you hanging on the ceiling? absorbers, clouds, likes, sex-chairs, etc :-) so you need to factor that in. i generally assume 12lb/ft between structure components, lights, clouds, and maybe things like mics, additional spot lighting etc. but let's say 10lb/ft2 let's say your 90ft2 ...

Question on the isomax clips weight rating and how to calculate it. Isomax isolation clips state they are rated at 36 lbs per clip. Does this mean I should take the total weight of what I am attaching to the clips and divide by 36 to know how many clips I need? Id like to do 1/2" plywood, 2 lay...

6105 depending on the rockwool product density - you might even put a layer of the rockwool into that air space. you have 8-3/4" air, and 9" of rockwool. Well I can’t tell you how well this worked out. The 3rd layer of rockwool between the studs fit perfectly, and because rockwool is an a...

Edit: I tool the pictures in portrait and the site is converting them to landscape... not sure how to fix that. Sorry. Windows update, sealed sealed and sealed again. The window stops are actually 1x1 that are dado'd into the 1x8's so a 1/2" in revealed. I then glued and nailed the 1x1's into t...

Is there a benefit to buying R-19 and using that on the 2x4 wall instead of rockwool? This way the vapor barrier is in the right place, and I get another 6”inches of insulation. It would poke through the 2x4 frame and touch the 2x6 frame.

6098 Ok guys, another quick question specifically on insulation. I built the exterior walls with 2x6. In each cavity I now have 2 layers of 5/8" drywall (1.25" total) and 3" bats of rockwool safe and sound. This leaves about 1" of space in the 2x6's that is unfilled. I then laid...

6097 Cool! That's a lot of glass! Did you manage to find acoustic laminated, or is that just normal PVB laminate? Either way it looks plenty thick enough to get you substantial isolation. - Stuart - Just normal PVB! I didnt know there was such a thing as acoustic laminated... but I dont think I cou...

A big fat stack of laminated glass for the exterior windows. 5/8” and 3/8” for each window. I’ll be using Stuart’s built on site method for installation.

6062 Looks fine to me! Louden's first ratio is a good one. It's also not necessary to hit the numbers spot on. Rather, just get close, as you have. Some people think they need to tweak the dimensions exactly, down to the nearest millimeter (1/32"), but it that's not needed. Room ratios are all...

6060 Right! It's 7" of "free" acoustic height. 17x13 is already a nice size, so getting a little extra height should make it fantastic. Did you try your dimensions on a room mode calculator? It's worth doing that, to make sure you aren't going to have serious modal issues. - Stuart -...

6058 Quick response.... 1. If you have 70 dBC outside and need "inaudible" inside, then around 40 dB of isolation will do the trick. That would put the levels inside down around 30-ish dBC, which should be decent for most tracking needs (maybe not for Foley work!). I'd still shoot for 50 ...

6056 So there are certainly pros and cons, but the answer depends on your answers to the key questions; How much isolation do you need? How critical is ceiling height for your room? Thanks for the response as always, Stuart. Even with having planned, replanned, redrawn, and redesigned several times...
