Attic Shaped Studio

Many (many!) years ago when I was a student at Berklee, a friend had the first Portastudio, and we used to record reverb in the bathroom (or a metal trash can; talk about your funky-sounding plate). Nice to see your delivery! There wouldn't be a spot for it here as everything is covered in snow (aga...

as I would not want a recording to be disturbed by an audible alarm going off Like those great (and true) stories of recordings with toilets flushing when reverb used to be recorded in the tiled bathrooms of recording studios and someone forgot to put up the "DO NOT ENTER" sign on the door.

Greetings Jennifer,

Very nice.

If only you could 3D-print these...

I suspect we've all been stung by the off square aspect at some point

Yes indeed!!! Currently doing the conversion of our garage for my wife's art studio. The whole thing is out of square. The ceiling was particularly aggravating.

All the best,

Paul

I was standing in the queue at Screwfix with a dozen tubes of caulk.

This sounds like a great beginning for a monologue.

Drum room/studio basement build

Greetings ScotcH,

Sorry, I thought you had a room-in-a-room design. I was confused (nothing new there).

350 lb weight rating? Nice.

All the best,

Paul

Silencer box. Best effort here with what I have to work with. It's only on the inner leaf (decoupled from the joists).

Why not use the joists? As long as the silencer is not coupled to the OUTER leaf you're fine. You'll have much better support/weight distribution.

Ha! You peasants without readily available robertson construction screws

Speaking for the rest of the rabble, it wouldn't be a project without the multiple daily trips to the home center. ;)

I'm also going to look into utilizing dampers so we're not wasting energy when the studio's not in use. Just remember to monitor the humidity in the studio. Your gear will appreciate it. You might want to consider a dry box for your mics (and any video cameras, etc). They don't use much electricity...

Private studio in Slovakia

Greetings Starlight,

Looks very nice indeed, although I was hoping for a more fanciful paint job on the silencers (some sort of trompe l'oeil or maybe the yellow that matches the fabric hiding the walls in the door jambs).

All the best,

Paul

An 850-piece assortment should get you by for awhile... ...although if you use one or two sizes frequently, it pays to buy them by the high-count box (if they are sold that way in the UK; they are here in the US), as you won't be paying for the storage case or the screw sizing you might never use. 2...

Basically the same options here in the US. Yes, PLENTY of grip: very positive feel when being driven. Kind of the same feel as TAPCON anchors going into concrete. T25 is a Torx (the "T" in T25). I like the T25s better, if for no other reason than the 2" long T25 bits for the impact dr...

Greetings Jennifer, Another possibility might be fitting stiff reinforcing bars / planks across the face of the OSB at the top and bottom where it joins to the silencers. I was going to suggest this. With the plasterboard going on top, you might put those on the vertical as well as the horizontal as...

Greetings Jennifer,

They've stayed stuck to the walls in the five years we've lived here

Well now that you've said that, you KNOW what will happen next...

Understood about the match to the floor. Makes perfect sense.

All the best,

Paul
