After a few days of casual searching online, I found this forum yesterday. My head is swimming! I can already tell there is so much useful information here. I'm a part time musician, who, like at least a few people here, have found that family, kids, schedules, etc. have made it nearly impossible for me to record or practice at home. I used to just push the sofa against the wall and leave amps and mics set up in the living room for weeks at a time. What happened!?
Well, after dreaming of it for years, I'm now planning to build a small studio in our yard. I'm a home builder, so the actual envelope isn't anything new for me. However, I can see I have a good bit to learn about the nuances required for isolation, to say nothing of pleasant acoustics. I'll post questions in the coming days in the studio design section. For now, I have a lot of reading to do. Thank you for this resource!

welcome! even the shell and foundation can be critical to your studio esp if you intend to have high isolation between rooms (presuming you have rooms
)

I might have rooms. The truth is that as much as I'd love a separate CR, probably 80% of what I'll be recording will probably involve me performing as well. So an open control room, or CR/LR combined may be the way forward.
I've read through a lot of threads already. Is there a preferred place to post general questions? I suppose I can jump into Studio Design, but unlike many posts, I'm less focused at the moment. Thanks!
