It's one of the big universities here: very well regarded, both locally and internationally. (One of my daughters got her masters degree there, in fact).

I thought it was interesting that the optimum ratio obtained by the algorithm developed by these guys, would be rejected by the BBC criteria as too long and narrow, and at nearly 75m2 it would also not fit the BS.1116-3 and Tech.3276 specifications for critical listening rooms. Interesting. But I do have to admit that the modal spread looks very nice.... on the other hand, it's a rather large room, compared to typical control rooms, so it would not be hard to get good spread from many of the well-known ratios.

It would have been nice if they would have run the optimizer algorithm for several different sized rooms, with limits set to increasingly smaller sizes, to see how that works out. 75m2 is unrealistically large for most studios. It would have been good to see sizes of, for example, the smallest, larges, and median dimensions in BS.1116-3 / Tech.3276 (maybe 20m2, 40m2, and 60m2).

But I do like the premise that they base their paper on: Using psychos-acoustic criteria as the basis, instead of all levels the same, makes sense.

I have no desire to dilute the floating floor myth thread. Attached is a test of a floating floor that does work properly. It is just 14" thick and and a light ~125 lb/ft². Perfect for the attic!
