using a painted (to match cloth) piece of plywood (attached to frame) for the can opening makes it easy to keep things neat. most of the fabric stretc hsystems also have components for light openings. yes a nice porous thick cloth will look nicer that thin sheer fabrics especially after some time to stretch.
