HELLO ALL
I debated opening this on the JLSArchive site or here, I feel like this is the better place. The Archive may go read only soon....
Well it took almost a year of planning but construction is finally underway of my new backyard studio! Link to the design thread here https://digistar.cl/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1092. A few important things before I start posting pictures and asking questions. First, thank you ALL for the great advice and encouragement. This is not an easy process, but as I stated in the design thread I have more patience and more means than I did in the past and I really want to do this right. I must have redesigned the building at least a dozen times. Even pulled the approved plans and changed it again at some point.
All that said, here are the sketchups for the final build. As you can see I have a lot of space to do soffits to enclose HVAC, more places for storage and I got all the things I wanted out of it. Small booth, Live room with vaulted ceilings, BIG control room and lots of natural light throughout. Im sure I will regret the placement of the window into the live room, but honestly I had to start making decisions based on needs. I saw some cool ways to deal with hiding the window during mixing, so I'm not too worried about it. Still planning a sofit mounted speaker setup etc, and I will be coming back with more questions as things start to ramp up on the build.
It is full room in a room construction for the live room. This was the most important area to get isolated. I want to record drums late, but the control room didn't need as much isolation. I still plan to do 2 layers of drywall between the studs on control room as well as 2 on the interior, so while its not room in a room its still a MAM assembly. We will see how it performs.
Also have tons of space above the control room for HVAC etc. I plan to put a soffit down the top of the 3 smaller rooms in the LR that will hide the HVAC, thats not totally pictured in the designs yet. Also like that I got a little storage space there for guitar cases, drums etc.
Anyway, I was super excited so wanted to share some progress pictures.... Cheers!
