Hey Scott,
Wow! The video really shows off the stunning location and view, you are incredibly blessed to have that vista as are your future clients! Ofcourse it must be even more glorious in real life. Thanks so much for the video tour.

What is the material around the speaker cutouts in the front wall? Looks like a sort of carpet? Is there a reason why this was used instead of continuing with the tiles?

Your welcome... The view is really incredible. Joules said this is his 97th studio he has built and this is in the top 2 for location!!!

It is carpet.. Joules said they had done this previously and the reason is if I ever want to get bigger monitors, you can more easily alter them if is not tiled... I think it looks very nice though..
Peace

It was quite exciting today as Joules made some acoustic measurements in the control room. I have attached a picture. He used an Earthworks microphone that Stuart recommends, Focusrite soundcard and did three measurements. One close to the speaker, one at about the mixing spot and one closer to the rear of the room. Volume was about 80-90db. I do not have the files yet but he was very happy with the results of the reverb time and other measurements. I will post the files. He said it was even better than he had hoped. :D

Nice one. I do like the way those tiles and carpet looks, and the purple side cover with wood.

Really looking forward to seeing the measurements, thanks for being generous enough to post them. I'm glad the room is behaving even better than expected!

Studio is coming along nicely but there is a break for a week or two as we get the floor down in the live room and entrance room. I expect by the end of the month, we will be 100% complete and ready to record and mix! Wow.. what a long journey.... Here are a few new pictures..

I've been meaning to ask, how are you cooling the amps in your monitors or did you remove the amps?

Joules did not put any special cooling conduits in. The monitor enclosures have a large opening at the top for the heat to rise out and some additional smaller holes. He said that there would be significant air circulation to not be a problem. The fresh air that comes in at the back of the room thru the bass trap, exits through the small holes at the front of the room and that air will circulate through the entire rear space where the speakers are. Joules was confident we would not have any overheating issues. I have to trust him. He also has experience with mounting the Yahama HS series speakers in walls.

Joules is returning April 21st to finish the job. It looks about 4 days more work to complete all the work. I managed to get the floor levelled for putting in the vinyl flooring but sadly, they guys who did are so over worked they can not fit me in for a few more weeks so probably not til the first week of May will everything be complete.. I expect all except the heating and cooling units and the floor in the live room to be done by end of April.. Here is pic of what the printed floor looks like in the live room. 2 of the 3 pieces... Peace..

We are coming down the final stretch now. They worked 3 long days and only have two left. Ventilation is running, alarm system, all the TRS jacks have been soldered for the patch bay, lights, carpet and acoustic treatment in the entrance way, TV monitors up, controllers, diffusors up on the live room, electrical outlets, all done now. He did some additional treatment at the front of the room to remove a 120hz issue as well. I have started to poster the live room as well.. Had a very nice talk with Joules and he was very happy and proud of this studio and said it was the best studio in Portugal as far as location, on site accommodation, and acoustics.. There are of course better studios with way better gear, mics, amps, etc.... This studio is just starting out!! My guess is if I can arrange to get the final floor down, we will be good to go in 2 weeks..

Thanks.. scott

Yes... me too. IT has a very nice bit of reverb time now and should be really good for drums and rock bands, which is what will mostly be recorded. Exciting.... Need to find a few small carpets to adjust the sound a bit if necessary..... Should have a final video in max 2 weeks, when I hope all will be complete.. We will see....

I finished the posters on the back wall now. That was a tough job...

Progtastic! I remember seeing Credo some years ago.

Will you be using any movable gobos in there?

Cheers.

Hello Jennifer

[quote="endorka"]Source of the post Progtastic! I remember seeing Credo some years ago.

Will you be using any movable gobos in there?

Yes.. I either have to make some or buy some. Any idea who sells good ones in Europe??? I will also have some small carpets so we can adjust the room that way as necessary.... Excited to be able to start recording sometime in May, I hope. I just can not find anyone to lay the vinyl floor where I live so this is very frustrating, so I just work on the posters for now. Almost done floor to ceiling all the way around.

all the best
