CYC WALL IN STUDIO? PROBLEMS?

We are considering a property for a new project studio....an existing commercial soundstage....with 15.5 ft. ceilings and over 2800 sq. ft. It has a curved cyc wall, 20 ft. wide and 45 ft long.

A cyc wall, also known as a cyclorama wall, is a curved wall mostly used as a backdrop for photography and video shoots. A cyclorama wall allows for consistent and seamless background transitions, which creates a smoother shooting experience.

Our intention is to incorporate this existing cyc wall into one of the live rooms to give an added option for music video production. Should we be concerned with any issues or problems when recording/tracking in such a space, due to curved wall? Or would that not be a benefit having curved wall?

In the original post are drawings of existing soundstage as well as planned recording studio layout with the mezzanine level included (showing lounge/kitchen)....the idea is to butt up to the mezzanine section to allow viewing through double glass window from lounge/kitchen area:

looks like it shold be a cool project. on the curved wall (and if it's chroma key painted), a set of heavy theater drapes will help - a) improve the acoustics, b) hide the chroma screen when not desired.

probably would be use to understand the work you think you'll be doing in the space - multiple projects going on in two spaces? do you need a large window for the video room? would you be recording/mixing while the video room is being used? the lower right corner - machine closet?

you you benefit from a couple of control rooms or a control room and post/prod room to handle the video work in conjunction to the video room activities versus a music recording/mix session?

Hopefully include video production, such as music videos or even live streaming, which is why thinking of keeping cyc wall....had thought curved cyc wall could also create cool acoustics....but music production is priority....from recording/tracking to mixing....control room will be set up for Dolby ATMOS 7.1.4....aside from working with musicians, our bread/butter will be in music production for TV/film (hence Dolby ATMOS)....we use hybrid approach.....including using Neve Genesys Black GB64 (32 ch.) G3D console as centrepiece in control room plus array of outboard gear and mics....

Instead of dealing with continual painting of cyc wall thinking using screens (white/blue/chroma-key green) covering wall in place of painting.

Likely only one project at a time such as if any video being shot not much chance of mixing in control room unless on headphones....definitely no recording/tracking when shooting video....though can record/track if streaming live and mix....and there is space in house in front of studio for video production....

Hope that gives you a better idea of work expect to do....in today's economy it is good to be as much of a one stop shop as possible.

agreed on the one stop shop. sure the cyc wall could just use chroma screens so you have flexibility there. given you have 2800ft2 space, i was just wondering if maybe multiple operating spaces at the same time would make more sense. in theory a couple of nice rectangular rooms with the surround mix capability with visibility into two large rooms (perhaps with some isolation booths) would let you handle a lot of work and simplify the construction, including flipping some things so accessing each space would not interfere wiuth whaever is going on in the different rooms. so, CR A and Room A, CR B and Room B. room A is a cool music recording space. room B is a cool recording / video / etc space.

Apparently the website where images linked to is down.....which is okay as have decided to forego keeping the curved cyc wall....to just concentrate on recording studio build
